MUSCAT: A vehicle workshop owner in Wilayat of Nizwa was fined and sentenced to three months in prison after he failed to repair and deliver the car on time.
In a statement issued, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said it received a complaint from a consumer in which he stated that he had agreed with a vehicle repair workshop in the Wilayat of Nizwa to repair a technical glitch in his vehicle, but the workshop did not perform the repair properly and was late in delivering the vehicle at the time agreed upon between them. “This prompted the consumer to submit his complaint to the administration, which took the necessary measures against it.”
“Our team examined the car with an expert who confirmed that the malfunction still exist. CPA then referred the case to the Public Prosecution. Following a detailed investigation, the Public Prosecution referred the report to the competent authorities. The Court of First Instance in Nizwa issued a ruling convicting the accused for not providing the service, and sentenced him to three months in prison. The court also ordered the workshop to be shut down and fined the accused with OMR 100 and was asked to pay OMR 250 to the consumer to repair his vehicle. He was also asked to pay OMR 50 towards legal charges,” CPA added.
