MUSCAT: A total of 242 violations of the Marine Fishing Law were recorded during the month of April 2022.
The numbers were released by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, represented by the Fisheries Control and Licensing Department.
According to the ministry, many kinds of violations were recorded. Those include – 207 violations related to not extracting, renewing or carrying licenses to practice, boats, ships, transport and marketing; 17 violations related to using or possessing prohibited fishing equipment and devices.

Four violations were related to hunting or possessing lobster outside the season or hunting young lobster laden with eggs. Three violations related to not placing plates on boats and ships and one violation were about fishing or possession of abalone outside the season or small abalone fishing.
One violation related to hiring unlicensed migrant workers and lastly, nine violations related to the fishing activity.
During April 2022, the Department of Fisheries Control and Licensing also managed to confiscate 730 kilograms of fish and recorded 31 accounts of seizures which included three boats or ships; three engines; four equipment, 20 fishing nets. An expat worker was also apprehended by the department.
The department is making efforts to preserve the fish wealth in the Sultanate of Oman by strengthening and intensifying the fish control work on the coasts of the Sultanate, especially during the fishing seasons.
