Omani student company develops smart cooking gas watch

The company is looking forward to launch the product in the Omani markets soon.

MUSCAT: The student company D-Flop from the National University of Science and Technology has succeeded in developing a smart cooking gas watch.

Stemming from a new experimental idea, this futuristic gas watch meets the requirements of security, safety and energy, reducing the chances of fire accidents occurring due to leaks and neglect.

The new innovation helps in noting measurement indicators and readings for the gas cylinder in terms of running out of quantity, indicators and readings before damage occurs to it, in addition to indicators and readings of leakage and preventing fire accidents. The company seeks to launch the product soon in the markets of the Sultanate of Oman.

Commenting on the idea of the product, Marwan bin Salem Al-Sahbani, CEO of the company said, “The idea of the smart cooking gas watch came after the role played by the company’s work team in researching and investigating the damage caused in the field of security, safety and energy, noting that through research and study in this aspect.”

“It became clear to us the extent of the positive value this device brings. The indicators and readings reviewed by the company’s investigation team show a large number of victims and injuries to a number of consumers. It was found that the gas watch needs sensors to detect the possibility of damage.”

He added, “The company’s development of the smart cooking gas watch comes as the statistics registered with the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority show that cooking gas has caused a number of fires inside homes, cafes, restaurants, and hotels.”

He also explained that the idea of developing this device was because of three advantages, which is a sensor to detect the presence of Leaks in gas or gas pipelines, the feature of scheduling and self-closing in the event of a leak, and an indicator to detect the amount of gas in the cylinder.

About marketing the device, Fatima bint Fahd Al-Badawiya, director of the company’s Marketing and Sales Department, said, “The company’s role comes in marketing this product to consumers, whether individuals or owners of cafes, restaurants, hotels and institutions that use cooking gas.”

“Especially since the company was established in 2022, the company participated in the Injaz Oman competition which encourages developing products that are more suitable with offer solutions in the field of security, safety and energy.

Al-Badwawi pointed out that D-Flop Student Company succeeded in passing the first phase of the competition in its tenth edition. It is currently competing through the smart cooking gas watch product in the second phase of the qualifiers among 31 student companies from various public and private schools and government and private higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.

Out of the 64 student companies, 11 of them fall in the schools’ category and 53 in the colleges and universities’ category. Through this participation, the company seeks to win prizes in the competition which hands out prizes for most innovative ideas and the best student company. This company would then represent the Sultanate of Oman in the regional competition in the Arab world.
