Wheat harvest season begins in Oman

The quantity of wheat production in 2022 may increase upto 2 tons by the end of the harvest season.

MUSCAT: Seeb farmers began harvesting this year’s wheat crop, under the supervision of the specialised agricultural engineers of the Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources Center in Seeb.

Engineer Abdul Hamid bin Saleh Al Darmaki, Director of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources Department in Muscat Governorate, said in a statement, “The ministry encourages and supports all farmers in order to improve the quality of agricultural products and increase them in quantity and quality. Efforts have been taken to achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural food products.”

He added that in 2022, the ministry distributed approximately 500 kg of improved wheat seeds to farmers in Seeb state, compared to 375 kg distributed last year, in addition to distributing a number of modern electric machines for harvesting wheat and providing more agricultural instructions to farmers by management specialists.

On the other hand, Hamoud bin Mansour Al-Hinai, a wheat farmer in Al-Khoudh village in Al-Seeb, said that the farmers have harvested about 1.5 tons of wheat in the last season. It was sold through the requests of traders and individuals from within and outside of the Sultanate of Oman.

The quantity of production in 2022 may increase upto 2 tons by the end of the harvest season in the last quarter of this month.
