Oman’s new fish market building work completed

The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources is also currently working on modernising existing fish markets in Oman.

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources has completed the development and rehabilitation works for the fish market building in the Wilayat of Dima Wal Taiyin in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The funding for this work came from the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund.

Engineer Yahya bin Khalfan Al-Hadidi, Director of the Department of Fish Market Regulation at the Ministry, said, “The rehabilitation and development work of the state market, with an area of 500 square metres, includes modernising the building, improving the external appearance and entrance to the market, maintaining its facilities, adding four shops, a store and an office.

The official also pointed out that the works also included the roofing of the market, providing air conditioning systems and developing drainage channels in order to make the place comfortable for workers and consumers alike.

Engineer Ahmed bin Shams Al-Siyabi, the principal researcher in the market development and rehabilitation project, indicated that the work included building modern fish selling tables by increasing it to 15 tables for improved work environment and quality.

Al-Siyabi said that the ministry is seeking to rehabilitate the market to develop the Wilayat Centre and serve consumers wishing to purchase fish products that our country abounds in, at the same time providing an appropriate and developed environment that serves the consumer on the one hand and the Omani youth workers in market services on the other hand.

The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources is currently working on building new fish markets and developing and modernising the existing fish markets in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to develop the marketing system due to the steady increase in the quantities of fish production.
