MUSCAT : The Sultanate of Oman has achieved many achievements at the regional and international levels, and has hosted many Asian and international championships.

His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, spoke with the youth during a talk show. During the show, His Excellency highlighted that the sports sector, since the beginning of the renaissance, has received great attention from the government in various fields.

His Excellency has confirmed that the government of the Sultanate of Oman attaches great importance to sports and seeks to develop it in all fields by continuing to build and develop and benefit from past experiences, explaining that the sports sector has a good base from which to launch according to new strategies and plans.

His Excellency said, “Work is now underway to modernise Omani sport to keep pace with the vision of Oman 2040, which can be summed up in four axes: an active healthy society, economically viable sports institutions, governing sports bodies, and sports that serve and preserve the environment. All of these axes have clear objectives.”

His Excellency mentions that there is coordination with the Omani Football Association to attract a group of qualified teams to the World Cup in Qatar 2022 to set up camps for them before the start of the tournament, and the sports facilities for these teams have been prepared according to international standards.

His Excellency said, “There is a group of promising players in various individual and team sports in the Sultanate of Oman who can achieve Olympic medals, and there is a project for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth through which we work in cooperation with various federations”

A group of young athletes who achieved advanced positions during the last period were carefully and meticulously selected for the Paris Olympics and the Los Angeles Olympics.

His Excellency added, “There are many opportunities to invest in the sports sector, and sports is a promising market in general, and we need to activate various elements, including the government, the media, clubs, sports institutions and schools. All these elements must be integrated and harmonised to have a clear vision.”

“The directives of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, emphasise interest in investment and marketing, encouraging opportunities in the sports sector, and communicating with companies to support sports institutions and clubs,” said His Excellency.

His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, clarified that the general assemblies of the clubs are the legislative bodes which monitor the work of the departments.
