Oman plans to introduce water taxi service

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology issued a set of guidelines in starting water taxi services.

MUSCAT: Oman plans to introduce water taxi services following a decision issued by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Sunday.

In a decision No 33/2022 issued, the Ministry regulated marine fare units and also issued safety guidelines.

According to the decision, the water taxi must have safety and rescue equipments and special jackets for children. Violating safety guidelines can also get a fine up to OMR 1,000.

“An administrative fine of OMR 1,000 shall be imposed on the operator for each violation of the provisions of Articles No. (2) and (8) of these regulations. The fine shall be doubled in the event of repeated violations during the validity period of the navigation license,” Ministry said in the decision.

The company, according to the decision, must be commercially registered, obtain a licence to practice the activity of water taxi by fare, proof of ownership and certificate of origin of the marine water taxi unit.
