MUSCAT: The Department of History at the College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University has obtained academic accreditation from the German Accreditation Institution AQAS. The institute is known for providing audit and consulting services for scientific programs of higher education institutions.
Dr. Ali bin Saeed Al-Riyami, Head of the History Department at the College of Arts and Social Sciences, said, “The History Department seeks to achieve a number of goals, including: working on applying scientific principles in scientific research and transforming them into programs that benefit society and institutions related to specialisation, and graduating highly qualified cadres with expertise. knowledge, research and leadership skills, promoting the values of belonging and identity, and benefiting from the experiences and lessons of human history.”
He added that the history department’s journey began with obtaining program accreditation through several steps, the first of which was to study the selection of the appropriate accreditation institution for the nature of the specialisation in the middle of the fall of 2016. 2017-2019 is the period for preparing the self-study, preparing the required files and data and translating them; In order to prepare and prepare to visit the accreditation institution.

This accreditation comes from the university’s keenness to provide high quality educational services to its affiliates, in accordance with scientific and professional standards, in order to achieve its vision and mission, which stipulated “excellence in teaching, learning, scientific research, innovation and community service.”
There are three academic programs in the department: the bachelor’s program, which began with the establishment of the College of Arts and Social Sciences in 1987, and in the academic year 2002/2003 the master’s program began, and in the academic year 2010/2011, the doctoral program began, and the department receives annually a number of international students In my master’s and doctoral programmes.
