Scientific lecture on meteorites held in Oman

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, on Thursday, organised a scientific lecture on meteorites in the Sultanate of Oman, presented by Professor Beda Hoffmann, head of the Swiss scientific team working on several projects related to meteorites.
 
The lecturer touched on the definition of meteorites, their genesis and formation, and the mechanism of determining their ages and how they fell.

The lecture also introduced the sciences and characteristics of meteorites that can be used in knowledge and scientific enrichment about the formation of asteroids, and the reasons that lead to the fall of this number of meteorites on the land of the Sultanate of Oman.

During the lecture, models of the meteorites that were found, its history, and the future of scientific research in the field of meteorites in the Sultanate of Oman were presented.

The Meteorites Project in the Sultanate of Oman is a scientific research project based on the experiences of many specialised scientists from the Sultanate of Oman and Switzerland and some of the leading authorities in the field of study and analysis of meteorites.
