100 seedlings of pastoral trees planted in Oman

This initiative was taken to diversify the sources of natural pastures which is vital for animal husbandry in Oman.

MUSCAT: The Animal Development Department of the Department of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Sohar planted 100 seedlings of pastoral trees in Wadi Al-Hilti. This initiative was taken to diversify the sources of natural pastures.

Ahmed bin Ali Al Ghaithi, Head of the Animal Development Department at the Department of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources in Sohar said, “The interest and preservation of these resources came through adopting many development projects and programs to manage pastures according to scientific foundations.”

He pointed out that the natural pastures with a variety of environments in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman are one of the important pillars for animal husbandry. Certain species, which are a good source of fodder for camels and goats, can be grown in semi-arid areas. Its fodder will be available throughout the dry season and also in the absence of other sources of fodder.
