Govt studying proposal to raise allowances to support social security families in Oman

Minister of Social Development says the government is also studying the creation of a family protection law.

MUSCAT: The government is studying a proposal to raise the allowances for social security families in Oman, the Minister of Social Development has informed.

Speaking in an interview, Her Excellency Laila Ahmed Awad Al Najjar said the proposal has been submitted to the competent authorities and is currently under study. “We hope that it will be accepted, and there is a serious effort from the Ministry in this aspect,” the Minister said.

More than 73,000 individuals and families benefit from the social security scheme.

Her Excellency indicated that there are rehabilitation centers that provide services to children with disabilities, including 31 governmental centers, 36 private centers, and 11 centers affiliated with NGOs.

The Minister pointed out that the system related to insurance and the Social Security Law has undergone many modifications and developments during the past years, but this system needs to be developed and changed to suit the variables and lifestyle.

Her Excellency clarified that the Ministry is studying the creation of a family protection law; “In order to analyze the existing legislation, regulations and systems in force and address the shortcomings to come up with a clear vision that determines the need for a law directed directly in this aspect,” she added.
