MUSCAT: Oman Fisheries Company has confirmed its intention to double the company’s production of fish to reach 56 thousand tons during the current year.

Sulaiman Al-Ghanami, CEO of the Omani Fisheries Company, said in his statements, “In 2021, we processed about 28,000 tons, and we are targeting double that amount in 2022. We expect tremendous growth in this regard.”

He pointed out that the company plans to achieve this goal by expanding its international joint ventures to take advantage of technologies from companies around the world.

He said, “We have existing joint projects with a number of fishing operators, for example with fishing vessels from Spain and Turkey.”

He stated that they are licensed to fish in Omani waters, and then unload their catch in the Sultanate of Oman, and they process and pack it in various factories. He added, “We are targeting other new joint ventures in the near future.”

He said, “We process all types, from small fish to tuna, along with crustaceans such as shrimp, and we focus on value-added products for frozen fish, supplying fresh fish to Oman and to 55 international markets.”
