MUSCAT: The 23rd Winter Camp for Girl Guides began in Saham, on Monday, with a participation of 64 female guides and students from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The opening ceremony began with the entry of the queue to display the participants, after which the flag-raising ceremony was held, by handing it over from the camp’s general commander to his league leader and then to the head of the vanguards in the camp, who handed it over to the flag guard, after which the flag was raised to mark the opening of the camp.
The camp aims to provide girl guides with outdoor life and nature, practicing guiding traditions. It also contributes to the realisation of the principle of ‘a society whose members are responsible, aware of their rights, and committed to their duties. Additionally, the camp also aims at enhancing the personal skills of girl guides, developing their leadership skills, preserving identity and promoting responsible citizenship and raising community awareness on the importance of the girl guide movement.”
Other areas which will focused on during the camp include developing the Girl Guides’ awareness about electronic security and smart browsing, encouraging girl guides’ knowledge and skills towards renewable energy sources, the role of social responsibility through community participation, developing membership and attracting new members to the movement in the Sultanate.
The camp program also includes a workshop on smart and safe surfing on the Internet, dialogue sessions that boost the self-confidence of the participants, celebratory parties, educational sessions on rights and duties, personality discovery, many games and entertainment programs, competitions in volleyball, trolley and basket, and workshops on 3D design and a box Innovation, 3D science cinema, renewable energy such as: solar energy, wind, hydrogen, and activities about community service.
