Oman business: Two new services launched in Duqm

The new services, related to the management of chemicals and hazardous wastes, were launched on Tuesday.

MUSCAT: The General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones has established an electronic system by launching two new services related to the management of chemicals and hazardous wastes in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

Engineer Ahmed bin Hareb Al Balushi, who is in charge of running the work of the control and compliance sector at the General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, said that the first service is the inventory of chemicals, and the second service is the inventory of hazardous waste. The launch of the two services comes after the completion of the electronic system for the management of chemicals and hazardous waste in the region Duqm Economic.

He added that the two new services achieve the proper management of hazardous chemicals and waste, facilitate procedures for investors in the process of sending periodic reports on data and information on hazardous chemicals and waste, and provide information to the relevant government and private agencies in the Sultanate of Oman about data related to chemicals and waste, both in terms of types or their quantities or the countries imported from them and the purpose of dealing with them, in addition to the classification of waste, their quantities, source and methods of treatment.

He pointed out that the new system contributes to facilitating the process of managing, controlling and controlling hazardous chemicals and waste, especially prohibited chemicals, which will help the Sultanate of Oman in general and the authority in particular in meeting the requirements of international agreements ratified in cooperation with the concerned authorities, saving time and effort and raising efficiency. Establishing a national register for hazardous chemicals in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

For his part, Mohammed bin Abdul Majeed Al-Houti, who is in charge of running the applications and digital transformation department, said that the new system will be developed in the future in a way that keeps pace with the increase in the number of industrial projects in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, noting that the digital transformation plan implemented by the authority is in line with the relevant government plans.


He added that the electronic services provided by the authority accelerate, organise and simplify the business in the way the digital government seeks to achieve, noting that this year will witness the addition of more other services that stimulate the business environment in the special economic zones and free zones.
