MUSCAT: The Supreme Committee in charge of examining the mechanism for dealing with developments resulting from the spread of the coronavirus said in its statement, on Wednesday, that the data from primary health care centres indicate the rapid spread of respiratory infections in all governorates, especially among children between ages five to 12 years.
The data indicated that there is a wide and rapid spread of respiratory infections in general, including the COVID-19 virus in this unvaccinated category.
According to the committee’s study of reports related to the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus globally, a noticeable escalation in the epidemiological curve was observed due to the spread of omicron in Oman. This was reflected based on the increase of average positive test results.

In this lieu, the Supreme Committee decided to transfer the study in the first cycle classes in all the schools of the Sultanate to the distance education system for a period of four weeks, starting from Sunday, January 16. This decision was taken to protect all members of society, especially the children and their families, and in order to enhance the ability of the health system to deal with this disease and to provide its services.
