He learnt the nuances of the automotive industry, by working with various stakeholders in order to bring synergies for operational efficiencies.
Within a short time of his joining the family business, Mohsin made his mark and established his pedigree on the business horizon of Oman, giving a torrid time for the competitors in the market to come up with strategies that at least match the trendsetting initiatives and schemes rolled out one after another by Mohsin.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Automotive, Construction Equipment and Renewable Energy (ACERE) cluster of the Mohsin Haider Darwish Group, Mohsin, has been making exceptional awe-inspiring strides from the day he joined the family business. The youngest CEO of a group that is listed in the top 100 Forbes family-owned businesses in 2021, Mohsin has been actively involved in taking the successful company to even greater heights.
He is behind the rapid growth of MHD Automotive in the last couple of years, for example: MG Motors in the Sultanate has risen to 3rd place as per Middle East Automotive Council (MEAC) report, behind Toyota and Nissan in terms of local sales volume which is a massive jump from the 15th position for passenger cars in 2019.
Mohsin has coached and guided senior managers to improve effectiveness and policy enforcement, that has resulted in improved employee job satisfaction and higher performance levels. Even at a young age, Mohsin has cultivated a forward-thinking, inclusive and performance-oriented business culture to lead the industry in innovation and to enable progress.
Mohsin was also actively involved in bringing McLaren Automotive into the Sultanate of Oman, which was successfully launched at the brand’s state-of-the-art showroom in the capital. He was also instrumental in bringing top brands such as XCMG, Weir Trio and Varta Battery.
Another jewel in the crown of Mohsin is the setting up of the Electric Vehicle and Solar Panel Sub-Division, which is a first of its kind in Oman. He has already partnered with a renowned company for electric vehicle charging stations and is paving the way for the entry of EVs into the market.
Understanding that technology and digital revolution was the need of the hour following the onset of the challenges posed by Covid-19, Mohsin introduced several innovative ideas to help MHD ACERE overcome challenges. For instance, he launched e-commerce operations for Jaguar, Land Rover and MG Motors, where consumers can purchase a car simply in three clicks. A strong supporter of Omanisation, he enhanced the Omanisation ratio in the cluster to 65 per cent in 2021 from 32 per cent in 2019, ensuring that more Omanis came into the MHD ACERE fold.
He is instrumental in creating a streamlined and transparent hiring process within the ACERE vertical and was directly involved in hiring 107 Omani employees into the company in 2020. The young businessman of the MHD family has taken many key measures to diversify the business.
He launched MHD Leasing LLC thereby introducing the operations of rental and leasing of cars, commercial vehicles and construction equipment to individuals and commercial establishments. He went on to develop key operational initiatives to drive and maintain new business and ensuring that this is enabling the growth of the rental and leasing business across Oman.
Under Mohsin’s leadership, MHD ACERE has also launched ‘Auto Expert’, an advanced diagnostic training and development centre, which has been launched with the aim to become a one-stop-shop for scheduled maintenance, service and repairs of all kinds of vehicles. He is also spearheading the MHD Training Institute and looking to provide technical and non technical courses to enhance the capabilites of Omanis in their workplace.
Healthcare is one of the industries that Mohsin focused his attention on, partnering with top international brands in the sector. Among the medical aids and services MHD ACERE’s newly created HospiCare division supplies to hospitals in Oman are operation room surgical equipment by Spark Meditech Pvt. Ltd, critical care emergency devices by Comen, healthcare communication systems by SchrackSeconet AG, a wide range of ultrasound imaging devices from FUJIFILM Sonosite, intra-aortic balloon (IAB) catheters, hernia repair meshes and double pump RF from Insightra Medical, Inc.
He has been recognised by various organisations for his remarkable work.
