MUSCAT: Motorists can approach respective companies supplying fuel in the event of any technical problems in their vehicles related to fuel quality, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has informed on Thursday.
The statement comes after the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) held a joint meeting with CPA and OQ.
CPA said it is working to find a solution with the concerned authorities on fuel quality. “We are working to find an integrative role with all institutions with the aim of serving the public’s interest in preserving consumer rights, following up on all complaints received and finding appropriate solutions,” CPA said.

According to Khalid Al Rashidi, Communications and Media Director at CPA, motorists can approach fuel companies “to find out the technical reasons for that. If there is no cooperation from it and to find suitable solutions, the consumer should go to the Consumer Protection Authority in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.”
Earlier this week, MOCIIP said after examining them in reliable independent laboratories, the results of the samples showed that the fuel comply with the applicable standards. As reported by The Arabian Stories, MOCIIP held a meeting with Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) and OQ to discuss the fuel quality issue.
“Based on the examination conducted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and the OQ Group separately by taking more than 90 samples from 40 filling stations in various governorates of the Sultanate, and examining them in reliable independent laboratories, the laboratory results of the samples showed that the fuel conforms to the applicable standards. In accordance with the approved standard specification (Unleaded Gasoline Vehicle Fuel), OQ Group confirmed in this context its commitment to conduct laboratory tests for fuel periodically,” MOCIIP said.
