MUSCAT: The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine being sold in India under the brand name Covishield is a Oman-approved vaccine, a top Ministry of Health official has confirmed to The Arabian Stories (TAS) on Tuesday.
Hundreds of expat residents who are stranded in India have taken the Covishield vaccine that is being administered in India. “Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and Covishield are the same vaccines,” the official said speaking exclusively to TAS. However, travellers have to carry a QR coded vaccination certificate that mentions the details of the vaccine.
The clarification comes a day after the Supreme Committee lifted the travel ban on travellers from 21 countries. One of the criteria stated that those wishing to fly into Oman should have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine approved by MOH authorities. The decision comes into force from September 1.
