MUSCAT:
Oman’s Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has warned hypermarkets and other retail outlets against increasing prices for products ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

PACP is also ensuring smooth supply of essential products in the market during Ramadan.

Hamood bin Said Al Jabri, Director General of Consumer Services and Market Control at PACP said: “The authority provides a Ramadan Basket in most malls and shops annually. The Ramadan Basket will contain quality commodities at discounted prices: rice, sugar, milk powder, oil, semolina, jelly, custard powder, cream caramel, cheese, tomato paste, etc.”

According to Al Jabri, PACP will increase inspections across all retail outlets in the country during the course of Ramadan: “The authority will increase inspections during Ramadan and see that the prices of essential commodities are stable across markets and malls.”

The PACP officials are also constantly monitoring the movement of goods at Mawaleh Central Market to check prices of fruits and vegetables. It is working closely with malls and supermarkets to monitor the demand and supply of food and other essential commodities
