MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has strongly denied social media rumours about stopping vehicles with more than one person onboard and asking for Civil/ID cards to prove that the accompanying persons are from the same family.
A message attributed to Major Mohammed Al Hashmi from ROP’s Directorate of Communications was being circulated on Twitter. However, ROP said no such directives have been issued. “The ROP draws attention to the inaccuracy of this information attributed to Major Mohammad Al Hashmi. There are no directives to stop vehicles with more than one person and asking them to show ID cards to prove that they are from the same family,” ROP said in the statement.
“The Royal Oman Police warns against circulation of false news and asks everyone to ensure authenticity before publishing,” the statement added.
