MUSCAT : In a welcome move, the Kerala government has announced COVID-19 RT-PCR tests free of cost for all arriving passengers from abroad, the state’s Minister of Health has informed on Friday.
Early last week, the Indian government had made PCR test mandatory for passengers arriving in the country. All travellers who are flying to India must undergo RT-PCR test 72 hours before travel, while they must also conduct another PCR test upon arrival at the airport.
“At this stage due to rise in coronavirus cases we cannot do away with PCR tests for arriving passengers. It will continue and we will be collecting samples from passengers. They (passengers) can stay at their homes and health workers will be in regular touch with them. We would also like to inform that the government has decided to offer free PCR tests for passengers coming from all countries,” informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.

Different airports in India are charging different rates for the on-arrival RT-PCR COVID-19 test, depending on the charges fixed by the respective state governments. However, this is now free for those travelling to Kerala from Oman.
