Officials review cause of Wadi Kabir Industrial fire

MUSCAT: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) officials are reviewing their initial assessment of a massive fire that damaged several properties in Wadi Kabir Industrial area.

On Sunday, OCCI officials headed by chairman His Excellency Redha bin Jumah Al Saleh along with Ahmed bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Wali of Muttrah visited the site to evaluate the damage.

“OCCI officials appealed to the business owners the need to follow safety and security guidelines and period follow-ups which will help to reduce the damages,” OCCI said in a statement.

OCCI officials are also studying a plan to introduce regulations “that must be followed in the future in the industrial areas, which could contribute to protecting the facilities from risks and disasters.”

The firefighters at Public Authority for Civil Defence (PACDA) battled for more than eight hours to contain the fire which had a “great impact in mitigating the damage.”

OCCI also called-on business owners the need to get the facility insured. “This will ensure reducing the financial damages,” the statement added.
