MUSCAT: The first ever FRIENDI Mobile Men’s Badminton Championship played at the Royal Hospital indoor badminton courts concluded with much fanfare.
The championship that was played across two formats had 18 teams battling it out in the Super-seeded championship and 32 teams participating in the MENS-B category.
In the Super-Seeded championship fnals, Gafoor & Haroos beat the duo of Noufal & Nadeem in straight sets (21-11,21-18). Earlier in the semi-finals Gafoor & Haroos got the better of one of the tournament favorites Shanid & Abin (21-12,21-18) while in the other semi-finals Noufal & Nadeem beat Gururaj & Aaron (21-12,21-13). Apart from trophies the winners bagged home a cash award of RO 100, a 3 months gym membership at ACE FITNESS, and Friendi Mobile sim cards with 1 year free internet while the runners up earned trophies, RO 50 and 1 month free gym membership at ACE FITNESS.

Gafoor who also entered the MENS-B cup finals along with his other partner Hashim lost the finals to Faiz & Kumaran in a close fought encounter by 21-16, 21-19. While the pair of Shehzad & Faizal ended up 2ndrunners up in the MENS’B’ cup. Apart from trophies, the winners of the Mens B category won RO 50 sports shopping vouchers at AMM SPORTS shop while the 1stRunners up won trophies and vouchers worth RO 30.
Gafoor won the Best Player award while Kumaran was adjudged the Best Emerging Player.
