MUSCAT: Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued strict warning to suppliers after several complaints of weight manipulation has been reported.

In the last few weeks consumers have reported that weight of products such as bread and ghee has been reduced while the prices for these items remains the same. “Tampering with the weights of goods is against the law. This is an indirect price hike and fraud committed on the consumers,” CPA said in a statement.

“CPA has taken immediate measures against those manipulating the weights of commodities,” the statement informed.

CPA has called on suppliers, shopkeepers, and bakery owners not to reduce the weight of any product and not to display any commodity with a lower weight without obtaining its approval.
