Doing, said tennis legend Arthur Ashe trying to strike the ‘success’ shot on the volley, is more important than the outcome, but here’s a financial guru whose doings returned fabulous results for the businessmen and the boards and the groups he has served in the last three decades, in Oman and elsewhere.
“I am greatly compelled to quote legendary tennis player Arthur Ashe who once said: ‘Success is a journey and not a destination and the doing is more important than the outcome.’ It greatly resonates with my belief towards work, career and life. This according to me will make us strive for more without being affected by the outcomes,” P. Chandrasekr, a post graduate in commerce and a chartered accountant, says.
Chandrasekr is a versatile leader and top management professional with more than three decades of successful career in finance, corporate planning, business strategy, mergers and acquisitions, securities research, sales, trading and treasury investment advisory services with strong exposure in international financial markets, tax and legal domains.
A valued business associate and adviser to the board and business owners on cross-border opportunities, he is now Group General Manager with Jawad Sultan Group LLC, a well-known business group that plays a key role in various sectors of the Omani economy.
He has been steering operational and strategic directional activities of this multi-divisional family business conglomerate from 2007.
Chandrasekr was elevated to the current responsibility after successful exposure as financial controller with the group during the initial eight years. He has extensive experience as profit centre head, managing diversified businesses involving luxury brand retailing, mall development, mass entertainment, tours, travels and hospitality and investment and property management.
In the last two decades of his stay in the Sultanate he has seen the rapid economic growth that has taken place here. “The wise rule of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said had seen the country making rapid strides in economic and people development at the same time ushering in lasting peace. With the ascension of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Vision 2040 has been unleashed which is poised to take the country to new highs and it’s set for a new Oman,” he points out.
“Oman’s giant strides during the last decades of my stay have been perceptible yet invisible. To understand this, I would like to reckon all the major physical milestones as the ones that are ‘perceptible’. The invisible ones are all pervasive, i.e. Omani influence everywhere in making sure that the nation’s friendship and camaraderie is felt in all their interactions both within the country and without. To a good extent it moulds the personality of all those who live here. This quality according to me is one of its kind,” he adds.
“Oman has grown systematically over the years without any shackles. The ‘Omani way’, unique to Oman, is responsible. The country’s rich culture, resplendent with its vivacious and friendly people cannot but be fully endearing to one and all. How can I be an exception?” he says.
“I have great pleasure in extending my warmest felicitations to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the Omani people for the 50th National Day, an important milestone in its annals. Oman is indeed blessed…I will always cherish my stay in this great nation,” he adds.
“During the initial years of my stay I used to call it ‘home away from home’. Today, without being prejudicial or judgmental, I can say emphatically that it is my home. Staying in this beautiful place for more than two decades…I couldn’t have asked for more.”P. Chandrasekr
Chandrasekr has handled several complex and intricate issues concerning family businesses during his vast career and has a sound understanding of the working of debt and money markets, both domestic and cross border. He has strived hard to bring about result-oriented improvements in business operations, ushered in through innovative savings and cost-reduction strategies, and has proven credentials in delivering cost-effective solutions for enabling bottom-line improvement through cost-reduction strategies and new business initiatives in diverse industries in the Middle East and India.
