MUSCAT: In an announcement, the ministry said the directive applies to pilgrims accepted through the electronic screening process announced by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Those selected are required to visit the health institutions they chose from among the facilities designated by the Ministry of Health in each governorate.
The required vaccinations include the meningococcal vaccine and the seasonal influenza vaccine.
The meningococcal vaccine is required for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, including adults and children aged two months and above. A single dose provides protection for five years. Those who have received the vaccine within the previous five years do not need another dose, provided they present proof of vaccination.
The seasonal influenza vaccine is required for all Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, including adults and children aged six months and above. The ministry recommends an annual dose to protect against influenza and its complications and provide seasonal immunity.
The ministry urged all prospective pilgrims to complete their vaccinations at least 10 days before travelling to reduce the risk of infection transmission and safeguard public health during the pilgrimage.
