MUSCAT : India and Pakistan will meet in a headline clash at the Oman Cricket Academy in Al Amerat on November 8 as Oman hosts the DP World ACC Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup, with free entry to all matches.

The eight-team tournament, organised by the Asian Cricket Council and hosted by Oman Cricket, will run from November 5 to 14, bringing together some of the continent’s most promising young cricketers.

India and Pakistan have been drawn alongside Nepal and the United Arab Emirates in Group A. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Malaysia make up Group B.

The India-Pakistan encounter will take place on OCA Ground 1, starting at 9am, and is expected to be one of the tournament’s biggest draws.

Defending champions Pakistan, led by Farhan Yousuf, open their campaign against the UAE on November 6. India, captained by Lakshya Raichandani, face Nepal on the same day before meeting their traditional rivals.

India’s squad includes Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid, sons of former India batsmen Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid respectively.

The tournament will be played in the 50-over format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals on November 12. The final will be held on November 14 at OCA Ground 2.

Oman will host the competition without fielding a team, giving the country an opportunity to showcase its cricket facilities and experience in staging international events.

Oman Cricket Chairman Pankaj Khimji said hosting the championship reflected confidence in the country’s ability to organise major tournaments.

“Hosting a prestigious continental tournament of this stature reflects the confidence placed in Oman Cricket and our ability to deliver international sporting events,” he said.

Khimji invited fans, families and the wider community to attend, with Oman Cricket making admission free throughout the competition.

The U19 Asia Cup has provided an early platform for players including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis.

The tournament opens on November 5 with Sri Lanka playing Malaysia and Bangladesh facing Afghanistan. All matches are scheduled to begin at 9am Oman time.
