The project is intended to improve access to industrial facilities and provide services for existing operations and future investment in seafood processing, canning, fish oil production and related industries.
The Fisheries and Food Industries Complex at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) covers about 7.5 square kilometres. Its proximity to the multipurpose fishing port links fish landing operations with processing facilities and logistics services.
Abdullah bin Salem Al-Hakamani, director of SEZAD’s Technical Affairs Department, said the roads and utilities would improve traffic flow and support handling, transport and other industrial operations.
Road works include approximately 7.3 kilometres of single-lane roads, 1.4 kilometres of two-lane roads and two roundabouts, along with traffic signs and road markings.
The contract also covers drinking water and irrigation networks, high- and low-voltage electricity networks, street lighting, drainage systems and telecommunications ducts.
Ibrahim bin Zaher Al-Rawahi, acting director of SEZAD’s Industrial Clusters Department, said the development would strengthen connections between production, processing, storage and transport, supporting the expansion of existing businesses and attracting new investment.
He said the project would also create opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises providing transport, maintenance and other services.
The authority said improved infrastructure would help industrial facilities move supplies and finished products more efficiently and support access to domestic, regional and international markets.
