JEDDAH: Iraq has been confirmed as the host of the 28th Gulf Cup after the Executive Office of the Gulf Football Federation approved a request submitted by the Iraqi Football Association.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Executive Office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, held on the sidelines of the ongoing 27th Gulf Cup. The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Gulf Football Federation.

Iraq’s proposal was the only hosting request submitted by the federation’s member associations.

Under the approval, the Iraqi Football Association will be required to inform the Gulf Football Federation of the selected host city within the specified timeframe and complete all organisational requirements in accordance with the federation’s approved regulations and standards.

The Gulf Football Federation said the decision reflects its commitment to strengthening cooperation with member associations and supporting the continued development of the Gulf championship system.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Sheikh Hamad also reaffirmed his continued support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
