MUSCAT: Oman’s Environment Authority has initiated legal proceedings against a tourist over actions that disturbed sea turtles in the Ras Al Hadd area, following the circulation of a video on social media.
The Authority said it had been closely monitoring the video and confirmed that necessary legal action had been taken against the individual in accordance with applicable legislation.
It stressed that practices that harm wildlife or threaten natural habitats would not be tolerated.

The Environment Authority also urged citizens, residents and tourists visiting sea turtle nesting sites to comply with regulations and guidelines designed to protect the animals and their habitats.
Visitors were specifically advised not to touch, approach or disturb sea turtles, particularly at nesting sites.
The Authority called on the public to report violations or activities that could harm wildlife, saying the protection of biodiversity requires collective awareness and responsibility.
Ras Al Hadd, in Oman’s South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, is one of the country’s key areas for sea turtle nesting and forms part of Oman’s wider efforts to protect marine wildlife and sensitive coastal habitats.
