Paris: France suffered an injury blow despite opening their UEFA Nations League campaign with a victory, as captain Kylian Mbappe was forced off with a knee problem after scoring the winning goal against Türkiye.
Mbappe found the net to give France a 1-0 lead before receiving treatment on the pitch. He initially returned to action, but went down again around a minute later and was eventually substituted in the 58th minute.
The match also marked Zinedine Zidane’s first game in charge of the French national team.

Speaking after the match, Zidane said Mbappe was experiencing swelling in his knee and stressed that France would not take any unnecessary risks with the forward.
The French Football Federation later confirmed that Mbappe had suffered a tendon injury and would leave the national team camp to return to Madrid.
His withdrawal comes after France secured a 1-0 victory over Türkiye in their opening Group A match in League A of the UEFA Nations League.
The extent of Mbappe’s injury is yet to be determined, with further assessment expected following his return to Madrid.
