MUSCAT : The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat has stepped up efforts to support Nepali workers in Oman, organising a labour safety and awareness programme focused on employment procedures, worker protection and financial literacy.
Held at Nepal House in Muscat on September 18 as part of Nepal’s Constitution Day observance, the programme brought together representatives of Nepali organisations in Oman, members of the embassy’s Expert Group, volunteers and members of the community.
The session provided workers with practical guidance on renewing labour permits and making Social Security Fund payments, while also addressing common employment-related challenges faced by Nepali workers in Oman.

Addressing the gathering, Chargé d’Affaires Bishesh Kumar Sah highlighted the importance of worker safety, labour awareness and financial literacy, and reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to supporting the Nepali community in the Sultanate.
Sah also spoke about Nepal’s Constitution and its role in promoting inclusion and participation, while outlining the embassy’s initiatives to strengthen Nepal-Oman relations and its upcoming programmes.
Labour Attaché Damodar Gnawali outlined some of the labour-related problems faced by Nepali workers and the measures being taken to address them.
He stressed the need for prospective migrant workers to obtain accurate information before travelling abroad for employment and urged members of the Nepali community in Oman to help raise awareness and support workers who encounter difficulties.
A practical training session was conducted by Expert Group member Shyam Krishna Bhattarai, who demonstrated how workers can obtain labour permits through Nepal’s Department of Foreign Employment website. He also explained the process for making payments to the Social Security Fund and encouraged participants to share the information with workers who may need assistance.
The programme also paid tribute to victims of the August 26 flash flood in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River. Participants observed a minute of silence, while a lamp-lighting ceremony was held in memory of those who died and to pray for the recovery of the injured.
