MUSCAT : Al Dakhiliyah Municipality has clarified that notices issued to a number of kiosk owners in Fanja, Wilayat of Bidbid, are part of a wider move to regulate the use of public spaces and parking areas, rather than an immediate closure of their businesses.
The clarification follows recent discussions on social media regarding notices asking several kiosks in the area to vacate their existing locations.
According to the municipality, the decision was taken after reviewing the situation at the site and receiving complaints over the impact of the kiosks’ current locations on public parking spaces, pedestrian movement and neighbouring commercial activities.

The municipality said it had therefore decided to reorganise the site while working to provide suitable alternative locations for the affected kiosk owners.
The municipal department in Bidbid has notified all concerned owners and offered them several options. These include relocating their businesses to alternative sites belonging to the municipality or proposing other suitable locations, provided the new sites meet approved requirements and do not conflict with neighbouring activities or existing land uses.
Al Dakhiliyah Municipality said it is continuing direct communication with kiosk owners in coordination with the Office of the Wali of Bidbid, with each case being studied individually.
The municipality stressed that the aim is to strike a balance between supporting the continuity of the businesses and protecting the owners’ sources of income, while also addressing concerns surrounding the use of public facilities, parking areas and pedestrian spaces.
It added that all procedures are being carried out within the applicable regulatory framework and through an approach based on dialogue and practical solutions.
The municipality reaffirmed that the public interest remains a priority, while also taking into consideration the social and economic circumstances of the affected business owners.
