Oman explores expanding esports sector, global cooperation

MUSCAT: Oman is exploring ways to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing global esports industry, with officials discussing international cooperation, talent development and opportunities to expand the sector in the Sultanate.

His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, met Sir Paul J. Foster, President of the Global Esports Federation (GEF), in Muscat on Sunday.

The meeting focused on the growth of gaming and esports worldwide and ways to enhance their presence in Oman, including opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of expertise.

The two sides also discussed developing Oman’s esports ecosystem, supporting national talent and drawing on international experience to create an environment that encourages the sector’s growth and expands participation.

Discussions also covered efforts to strengthen Oman’s presence at regional and international esports events and championships.

Saba Al Busaidi, Chairperson of the Oman Committee for Games and Esports, attended the meeting.
