New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the Indian capital on Saturday for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, being hosted by India on September 12 and 13.
Xi travelled to New Delhi at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency. Xinhua earlier confirmed that the Chinese leader had departed Beijing to attend the two-day summit.
Xi is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Modi on the sidelines of the summit. China’s Foreign Ministry said the two sides were making arrangements for the meeting, which would mark the third consecutive year in which the two leaders have met.

The meeting comes as India and China seek to build on a cautious improvement in relations following years of tensions, particularly over their disputed Himalayan border. Bilateral ties have shown signs of recovery since a troop disengagement agreement reached in 2024.
During the BRICS summit, Xi is expected to address fellow leaders and discuss the international situation, the future of the grouping and ways to deepen cooperation among member countries.
The expanded BRICS grouping now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Indonesia, giving the bloc a growing role in global economic and political affairs.
