MUSCAT: Two crew members were killed after a Saudi-flagged oil tanker was struck by a projectile off Oman’s Musandam Governorate, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre said on Monday.
The tanker, identified as SIDR, was hit approximately two nautical miles northwest of Musandam, triggering an emergency response by Omani authorities.
A Royal Navy of Oman vessel provided logistical assistance to the tanker’s 25-member crew and evacuated 16 crew members following the incident, the Maritime Security Centre said.

The evacuated crew members were provided with necessary medical care, it added. Two members of the tanker’s crew died as a result of the incident.
Omani authorities have now concluded their support and assistance operations for the vessel.
