MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has launched an investigation into the deadly traffic accident in Samail that killed six people and injured 18 others, including eight who were reported to be in critical condition.
The ministry said on Saturday that, through the Transport Safety Office, it had begun investigating the collision on Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road in the Wadi Bani Rawaha area of the Wilayat of Samail.
The investigation will seek to establish the causes of the accident and identify factors that may have contributed to the crash, the ministry said.

The announcement follows confirmation by the Royal Oman Police that six people were killed and 18 injured in the major collision on Friday night.
The accident occurred in the Al Mahal area of Samail and involved a truck and several other vehicles travelling along Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road towards Muscat.
Police initially issued a traffic alert after the crash, reporting injuries and heavy congestion in Wadi Bani Rawaha and urging motorists approaching the area to exercise extreme caution.
In a subsequent update, the ROP confirmed that six people had died and 18 others were injured. Eight of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The collision caused significant congestion along the road as police and emergency teams responded to the scene.
The ministry expressed its condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Further details on the circumstances surrounding the crash are expected as the Transport Safety Office continues its investigation.
