Amstelveen: In the quarterfinals, the Indian men were defeated by Argentina 5-3 on Monday, ending India’s hopes of winning the Cup.
The defeat extends India’s wait for a medal at the Men’s Hockey World Cup. India last stood on the podium in 1975, when they won their only World Cup title by defeating Pakistan 2-1 in the final in Kuala Lumpur. The team had also won bronze in 1971 and silver in 1973.
Indian men will soon be looking to conclude their tournament with some success, despite having high hopes of reaching the closing stages of the competition.
