NEW DELHI : Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi on Monday afternoon, bringing relief from the heat. However, the city witnessed waterlogging across multiple areas, causing severe inconvenience to commuters.

ITO Chowk witnessed heavy waterlogging, leading to massive traffic congestion in the area. Additionally, areas including Munirka, Badarpur, Sikanderpur Ghosi, and Aerocity also reported waterlogging.

Criticising the ruling BJP-led Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that the administration’s grand promises of drain cleaning have been thoroughly exposed.

Sharing visuals of an inundated Sadar Bazar, Bharadwaj claimed that rainwater has flooded shops and ruined goods in the market, leaving shopkeepers helpless in the area.

“This scene is from Sadar Bazar, Delhi’s most famous commercial hub. Water has flooded the shops, goods are being ruined, and shopkeepers are left helpless. Ever since the “four-engine government” was formed, the entirety of Delhi has been suffering from severe waterlogging. The grand claims of drain cleaning have been thoroughly exposed. When will the administration wake up from its slumber?,” said Bhardwaj.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Delhi will continue to witness light rain across several parts of the city. According to the IMD, Safdarjung recorded a moderate thunderstorm with rain, with a temperature of 25.4°C as of 2:30 pm, while The Ridge recorded a light thunderstorm with rain and mist, with a temperature of 27.0°C as of 2:30 pm.

Earlier, light rain was witnessed in several parts of the city on Sunday morning, bringing a pleasant turn to the weather as people at Kartavya Path enjoyed early morning walks amid light showers. According to the IMD, light rain was recorded in isolated areas across the national capital, while the Safdarjung area reported mist along with a temperature of 27°C as of 8 am. Meanwhile, the Ridge area experienced a light thunderstorm accompanied by rain and mist, with temperatures standing at 26°C as of 7 am.

Meanwhile, the IMD reported widespread rain across the country yesterday. Haryana recorded very heavy rainfall between 12 and 20 cm, while heavy showers ranging from 7 to 11 cm were recorded across several regions, included Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Assam, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Interior Karnataka.
