MUSCAT: Oman’s paved road network expanded to 45,659 kilometres by the end of 2025, up from 40,546 km in 2021, reflecting continued investment in transport infrastructure across the Sultanate, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Figures published in the 2026 Statistical Yearbook showed that single-carriageway roads accounted for 41,478 km of the network, while dual-carriageway roads totalled 4,182 km.
The yearbook also recorded 44,079 km under the total length of paved roads at the end of 2025, indicating a difference between the published aggregate figure and the breakdown of single and dual roads.

At the governorate level, Al Dakhiliyah recorded 480 km of paved roads, the highest among the figures listed, followed by Muscat with 425 km and Al Dhahirah with 120 km.
Dhofar recorded the longest stretch of single roads at 383 km, followed by North Al Sharqiyah at 263 km and South Al Batinah at 260 km.
The expansion in road infrastructure came alongside an increase in driving licence activity.
Around 527,830 new and renewed driving licences were issued in Oman in 2025, compared with 500,738 in 2024 and 338,990 in 2021.
Of the total issued last year, 136,491 were new licences and 391,339 were renewals.
Expatriates accounted for the larger share, receiving 300,112 new and renewed licences, while 227,718 were issued to Omanis.
