MUSCAT : Sunlight is often credited with inducing vitamin D production in our body, which is crucial for strong bones and muscles. However, what constitutes an adequate amount of sunshine can vary from person to person.

The amount of ultraviolet light each person requires depends on many factors such as their skin pigmentation, geographical location, time of year, and the sun’s intensity. The WHO states that healthy people may create sufficient amounts of vitamin D through short-term exposure of their face, hands, and forearms to sunlight.

At the same time, excessive sun exposure causes sunburns and increases the risk of permanent damage to the skin and eyes. The WHO recommends using sun protection measures when the UV Index is 3 or above, including seeking the shade, wearing protective clothes, and applying sunscreen.
