Muscat: Brent crude futures rose 9 cents, or 0.1 per cent, to $87.16 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained 4 cents to $81.29 a barrel.

The modest gains came after both benchmarks fell by more than 2 per cent in the previous session, snapping a strong run that had seen Brent rise for six consecutive sessions and WTI gain for five. Brent settled at $87.07 a barrel on Thursday, while WTI closed at $81.25.

Despite Thursday’s decline, oil prices remain on course for weekly gains of around 4 per cent, supported largely by geopolitical uncertainty and continuing concerns over crude supply flows from the Middle East.
