MUSCAT : The agreements were signed during the Food Security Forum and Exhibition 2026, currently being held in the Wilayat of Salalah, as part of efforts to expand investment in productive sectors, strengthen local food production and support Oman’s food security objectives.

The projects will be developed across the wilayats of Muqshin, Thumrait, Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands, and cover a range of activities including the cultivation of agricultural crops, watermelon and cantaloupe production, poultry farming, and the cultivation of seasonal and non-seasonal crops.

According to the Ministry, the diversity of the projects highlights the growing range of investment opportunities linked to the food security sector in Dhofar Governorate.

The contracts form part of the Ministry’s efforts to make productive use of government lands by offering suitable real estate opportunities to investors through the usufruct system. The initiative is aimed at attracting economically viable projects, increasing local agricultural and livestock production and encouraging greater private-sector participation in sustainable food production.

The agreements were signed on behalf of the Ministry by Engineer Khalfan bin Masoud Al-Naabi, Director General of Housing and Urban Planning in Dhofar Governorate, along with representatives of several local companies and institutions.

The Ministry said the projects support national objectives related to economic diversification, investment growth, development of productive sectors and long-term sustainability of Oman’s food security system.

It also stressed the importance of closer cooperation between government entities and the private sector in creating an attractive investment environment and ensuring government lands are directed towards projects capable of generating economic and developmental value.
