MUSCAT: The film, selected from more than 100 entries from around the world, was recognised for documenting Oman’s culinary heritage and highlighting the cultural traditions associated with food tourism and culinary arts.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism congratulated Al Farsi and the film’s team on the international recognition, commending their efforts to document and showcase an important aspect of Omani heritage to a global audience.
Organised by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT), the Food Film Menu competition highlights films that explore the connections between food, culture, heritage and communities.
‘Ramadan Table of Sur, Oman’ explores the culinary identity of the coastal city of Sur through its Ramadan traditions. The film follows the journey from the sea and fish market to home kitchens, featuring local ingredients and dishes including fish, rice, fried fish, spices and yoghurt.
Through local voices and intimate visuals, the film portrays food in Sur as more than a meal, linking it to memory, trade, family traditions and generations of inherited culinary practices.
The film also presents Sur’s identity as a city shaped by its maritime heritage, Ramadan rituals and longstanding culinary traditions.
