MUSCAT: The shipment combines several types of Omani chromite ore in a single consignment, enabling the company to serve a wider range of buyers and factories while expanding marketing channels for Omani chromite in international markets.
The company’s marketing efforts have targeted Asian and European markets, alongside direct engagement with factories using Omani chromite ore. The approach is aimed at diversifying export markets, reaching end-users directly and establishing long-term commercial relationships.
The company also reported strong performance in the gypsum sector, having marketed and exported more than 1.8 million tonnes to 11 countries through more than 32 vessels departing from Salalah Port. The average selling price of gypsum exports increased by 8 percent compared with the same period last year.
Gypsum exports reached several Gulf markets, including Kuwait, while the company also expanded into new African markets and resumed exports to South Korea as part of efforts to diversify destinations and reduce reliance on a limited number of markets.
Hussain Ali Al Lawati, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Minerals Trading Company, said the launch of the integrated chromite shipment represents an important step in developing Oman’s mineral markets.
He said market diversification and direct access to consumers are key pillars of the company’s marketing strategy, adding that the results recorded in gypsum exports demonstrate the importance of managing marketing and export operations through a more integrated approach.
Al Lawati stressed that the company’s priority is to achieve the best possible commercial value for Omani mineral resources while ensuring the needs of the local market are met.
He added that OMTC is working to support the growth of mineral-related manufacturing industries in Oman by balancing exports with the provision of necessary supplies to domestic industries. This, he said, would help increase the added value of Oman’s mineral resources and support related investments.
OMTC, a subsidiary of Minerals Development Oman (MDO), was established under Ministerial Decision No. 18/2025 and holds the exclusive right to trade and export Omani gypsum and chromite ores to international markets.
The company began commercial operations with gypsum exports through Salalah Port as part of its mandate to centrally manage the export of raw gypsum and chromite from Oman.
Under the centralised export model, OMTC aims to unify marketing and negotiation processes, improve access to international markets and buyers, and enhance transparency and competitiveness in the export of Omani mineral raw materials.
