“New Zealand mourns with you. We are one,”
These were the words of Prime Minister Jacinda Arden, as thousands of New Zealanders gathered in Christchurch for nationwide prayers to mark one week since a white supremacist killed 50 worshippers in the same city.
On Friday afternoon at 1:30pm local time, Arden led thousands of mourners in prayer in front of the Al Noor mosque. Quoting the Prophet Muhammad, she said: “The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy are just like one body. When any part of the body suffers, the whole body feels pain.”
