MUSCAT: INTERPOL commended the Royal Oman Police for its role in bringing down an international criminal network that allegedly lured a victim to Oman under the guise of employment before forcing the individual to swallow capsules filled with drugs for cross-border trafficking.
According to INTERPOL, the case began in June when Zimbabwean police alerted their international counterparts about a suspected human trafficking operation. The victim had reportedly been deceived with a job offer in Oman before being intercepted by members of the criminal network during a layover and coerced into swallowing drug-filled capsules.
Upon arrival in Oman, the victim was forced to expel the drugs, which were intended for distribution within the region, INTERPOL said.

A joint investigation by the Royal Oman Police, with support from INTERPOL, led to the arrest of four suspects, the seizure of narcotics and the rescue of the victim.
INTERPOL highlighted the operation as an example of effective international law enforcement cooperation, recognising the efforts of Interpol Muscat and the Royal Oman Police in combating organised crime, human trafficking and illicit drug trafficking across borders.
