MUSCAT : The action comes as part of the centre’s efforts to enforce regulations governing food advertisements and promotional materials, protect consumers and ensure compliance with approved requirements.
The Food Safety and Quality Centre said it continues to monitor and track advertisements to identify violations and will take necessary legal measures against those who breach applicable regulations.
The violations detected included advertising or promoting food products without obtaining prior approval from the centre, as well as using unapproved or misleading health and nutritional claims in promotional content.
The centre also identified cases involving the promotion of products for which regulations prohibit advertising, along with advertisements containing information or claims that could mislead consumers or breach technical requirements.
The authority stressed that it will not hesitate to impose penalties on violators in accordance with the applicable legislation, as part of efforts to enhance consumer protection and raise compliance standards in food product advertising.
