Oil prices fall as Middle East tensions persist

Oil prices declined on Thursday as crude tankers continued to depart the Middle East region despite rising tensions and the widening conflict between the United States and Iran.

BEIJING: Brent crude futures fell $1.29, or 1.42 percent, to $89.45 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures dropped 56 cents, or 0.66 percent, to $83.90 a barrel.
The decline came after both benchmarks recorded strong gains in the previous session, with Brent crude settling 7.91 percent higher and WTI rising 6.56 percent in one of their strongest rallies in recent periods.
