Doha: Oman held its nerve in a closely contested encounter to defeat Kuwait 62-59 in the opening round of the FIBA U18 Asia Cup GCC Qualifiers on Saturday.
The young Omani side produced a disciplined performance at both ends of the court, staying composed during the closing stages to seal an important three-point win and collect its first victory of the tournament.
The result provides Oman with valuable momentum in the round-robin competition, where the five Gulf nations are battling for a place in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup.

Oman will now turn its attention to its next challenge against Bahrain on July 27, as it looks to build on its winning start and strengthen its qualification hopes.
The GCC qualifiers are being held in Doha from July 25 to 30, with Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia competing for the lone qualifying berth to the continental finals.
